"i sat in the dark with aurora borealis behind my eyelids and thought about dying." - The Pants

"I have made a simple flicker machine... You look at it with your eyes shut and the flicker plays over your eyelids. Visions start with a kaleidoscope of colours on a plane in front of the eyes and gradually become more complex and beautiful, breaking like surf on a shore until whole patterns of colour are pounding to get in... Afterwards I found that my perception of the world around me had increased very notably. All conceptions of being dragged or tired had dropped away..." - Ian Sommerville

Phosphenes/Deep Field

Deep Field - Small

"Had a transcendental storm of colour visions today in the bus going to Marseilles. We ran through a long avenue of trees and I closed my eyes against the setting sun. An overwhelming flood of intensely bright colors exploded behind my eyelids: a multidimensional kaleidoscope whirling out through space. I was swept out of time. I was out in a world of infinite number. The vision stopped abruptly as we left the trees. Was that a vision? What happened to me?" - Brion Gysin

"i read with my eyes closed and my laptop flipped open and my heart palpitating and little red shapes dancing against the orange drive-thru screens of my eyelids. i lie there, literally trippin out on my own adrenaline till it hits me how far i've fallen beneath the surface of it all." - TRUE

Dub

I should be listening to a lot more Dub. I know it--but just never knew where to begin. What are the sub-genres? Which producer is the most forward-thinking? Anyone connoisseurs out there with suggestions? I lean toward the dark and instrumental. Massive Attack not Sean Paul.

Blogger Sean thought:

I love dub, actually. I'd suggest pretty much anything that Bill Laswell has touched. DJ Spooky, I-Sound, Tosca, Rootical Sound... there's lots to choose from.

Then there's the almost dub, but not quite stuff, that veers over into more Aphex Twin territory, like To Roccoco Rot + I-Sound, I:Cube, etc.

It's a pretty deep genre in general. Have fun digging.

Aloha

"Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today."

Anyone think that Boot Camp might mature into a virtualization environment called Aloha? A simultaneous hello and goodbye to the Windows monopoly?

Thanx.

I adored the snails as well. These are only what we picked up in a few quick minutes--there were literaly hundreds per square meter--atop the dead black gunk shoreside at low tide.
