Call Me Nostalgic

A call just came in on my iPhone. A restaurant confirming a reservation. I was listening loudly to a record with fullscreen Gaslight going on the TV, twittering on my laptop. Totally distracted.

Neither machine popped a dialog or overlay announcing the incoming call. Neither identified the caller with picture icon. The mini didn't pause iTunes. Music is still blaring. Only the phone knew someone was calling.

Is this functionality too much to ask for? Can't they talk to each other? I used to achieve the above (and more) using a T610 and Salling Clicker on a TiBook running Panther. This was years ago.

As I say all too often, WTF? Why can't the phone do this?
